Growing 84% of the country’s sauvignon blanc plantings, the Marlborough region is rightfully known as the capital of sauvignon blanc in New Zealand. Stretched across beautiful valleys and the stunning Marlborough Sounds this is the largest wine region in New Zealand and home to many world-famous brands. Made up of sub-regions, the Southern Valleys, Wairuau Valley and Awatere Valley, the Marlborough region offers a huge variety of wines due to the diverse soils and meso-climates distinctive to each unique sub-region.
Located at the top of the South Island, the overall combination of cooling maritime climate with the highest sunshine hours of the country adds to the complexity of the fruit grown here and creates the perfect, enviable environment for grape growing. Whilst sauvignon blanc may be the signature wine produced, Marlborough is also becoming increasingly popular for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and sparkling wines.
